All About Yucca Rostrata

A favorite within our office, Yucca Rostrata (aka Beaked Yucca) is a top performer! We love this plant for it’s evergreen state, textural interest, and cold hardiness. As you can see, it adds beautiful gray-blue color which can create a lovely contrast in your yard.

Because of the sculptural and eventual vertical elements of this plant, we love placing it among low-growing plants so it’s the standout at eye-level. Over the course of a decade, this plant will reach 10-12’ tall, and thrives well-draining soil and full sun conditions.

Additional favorable attributes in our Texas conditions include it’s tolerance to heat and drought! Make sure to watch this plant in the late spring as a showy white-yellow bloom will extend from a stalk. And don’t worry too much about the 2’ long ‘spikes’, they aren’t nearly as sharp as they appear!
